Welcome to The Shan Academy (“we”, “our”, “us”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) outline the conditions for using our website, tutoring, mentoring, and workshop services. By booking a lesson, workshop, or using our website, you agree to these Terms.
1. Who We Are
The Shan Academy provides online tutoring, mentoring, and wellbeing workshops for students aged 11–18 and adult learners.
We are committed to supporting the Hong Konger community in the UK, helping students and families build confidence, adapt to British education, and thrive academically and personally.
2. Safeguarding & Safety
All tutors at The Shan Academy are DBS-checked to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
Sessions are conducted only via secure, approved platforms, including Zoom and TutorCruncher.
We have an internal safeguarding policy which all tutors and parents are required to sign to protect students' safety and privacy.
Sessions must not be recorded by students, parents, or third parties unless written permission is granted by The Shan Academy.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure students have a quiet, safe learning space during lessons.
3. Booking & Cancellations
Lessons and workshops must be booked in advance through TutorCruncher, our secure scheduling and payment platform.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be fully chargeable, except in emergencies or exceptional circumstances at our discretion.
We reserve the right to reschedule sessions with reasonable notice if required.
Regular attendance and punctuality are expected to ensure consistent learning progress.
4. Payments
All payments are processed securely through safe and secure platforms: TutorCruncher and Stripe.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be fully chargeable, except in emergencies or exceptional circumstances at our discretion.
We do not offer refunds for missed or late-cancelled sessions.
5. Use of Services
By using our services, you agree to:
Treat tutors, staff, and other learners with respect and courtesy.
Not share, copy, or redistribute lesson materials or resources without written permission.
Not record or publish any part of a lesson, workshop, or mentoring session.
Use sessions for educational purposes only, and not for any commercial or unlawful purpose.
The Shan Academy reserves the right to suspend or terminate services if behaviour is inappropriate or breaches our values of respect, inclusion, and professionalism.
6. Student Responsibility
To make the most of our lessons, students are expected to:
Engage actively during sessions.
Complete any independent or follow-up work assigned between lessons.
Combine their tutoring with regular schoolwork, revision, and independent study.
While The Shan Academy provides expert guidance, feedback, and structured support, progress depends on each student’s individual effort, commitment, and consistency.
7. Intellectual Property
All lesson materials, slides, and resources provided by The Shan Academy are the intellectual property of The Shan Academy or its tutors.
They may be used only for personal study and may not be copied, distributed, or used for commercial purposes.
8. Disclaimer
While we aim to help every student achieve academic progress and personal growth, we cannot guarantee specific grades, outcomes, or exam results.
Learning progress depends on individual effort, attendance, engagement, and completion of independent work.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Shan Academy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of our services or website.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for fraud, negligence, or personal injury caused by our tutors.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be available on our website. Continued use of our services after updates are posted means you accept the revised Terms.
